Deep Peels

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) Peels

TCA peels are used to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin to enhance skin smoothness, tone, discoloration and to improve fine wrinkles. Patients who seek dramatically increased skin vitality with a reduction of fine wrinkles, who understand recovery and temporary duration of effect, and who do not expect improvement in dynamic wrinkles are generally satisfied with medium chemical peels. These peels are performed by Dr. Tan.

The use of proper skin care products regularly after your peel, will maximize improvement. Repeat peels can be performed every six to twelve months.

Unlike deep peels, medium peels may be performed safely on people with olive and light brown skin. They may also be used in some people with dark brown skin, although the risk of discoloration is higher.

Proper skin preparation before a medium depth chemical peel will result in better results. We recommend glycolic acid and bleaching agents daily for four to six weeks. Bleaching agents used before and after your peel will minimize the risk of brown discoloration and staining in darker complexions after the peel.

Medium peels are performed in-office and require 15-30 minutes. Dr. Tan may offer you pain medication or sedatives to help you tolerate the burning sensation during the application. Burning lasts about 2 to 10 minutes. Once all areas have been neutralized, your skin will return to its normal color in 15 to 45 minutes. Your face will be covered with an ointment to keep your skin moist and promote healing. Post-operative pain medication such as Motrin, Advil or Tylenol may be taken if necessary.

Discomfort is minimal following the procedure. Treated areas will initially appear red, then, within a few days, layers of skin will turn dark, become stiff, and flake off. Flaking is usually complete in four to seven days. There will be no open wounds or scabs. Once your old skin has sloughed, your new skin will be bright and flushed. Once your skin has finished peeling, you may begin wearing makeup. Most are able to comfortably return to usual activities in public within seven days. You should resume skin care within two weeks of your procedure. Your flushed appearance will fade slowly over several weeks.

Cost:
Total cost of a full-face medium chemical peel averages $600 – $1,000 + HST.
