• Actinic keratoses are rough, scaly patches which are pre-cancerous and caused by excessive sun exposure. They usually affect the face, neck and top of the hands. There are multiple treatment options available including liquid nitrogen (for spot treatments), and various chemotherapy creams (for field treatments). Untreated, they may slowly progress to skin cancer.
  • New treatments continue to be evaluated in research trials for actinic keratoses (contact www.wcri.ca for more information).
